This quaint little town has come a LONG ways in the last 5 years or so in making it look cleaner, fresher and a little more "modern" to appeal to the Tourists, and we think they have done a great job at it! We love our little tourist towns!
Well, we think you will love Hill City for all the reasons WE DO!! Not only is it a fun little town with boardwalks off the Main Street, it also offers some of the best food to be found in the whole area!
When you stop in for a visit make sure to hit the following places!
This is the Alpine Inn, and one of our favorite places to eat!
The lunch menu is full of authentic German fare, their decadent homemade desserts are served at lunch and dinner. You HAVE to stop here to eat, I promise, you will LOVE it!
The Alpine Inn alone is reason enough to visit this cute little town, if not the MAIN reason for us...haha! But then, we are known to LOVE our food! And really, Germans make some seriously good grub!
The Alpine Inn has a very LIMITED menu at dinner time, but you will ALWAYS find a line there on the weekends, ALL year long! And in the summertime? There is a waiting line to get in for lunch or dinner, 6 days a week!
We prefer lunch as the selections are much bigger in variety, and they are all awesome too! The fact that they serve the most delicious desserts anywhere, and during the lunch hours, cinches that deal for us!
Even if you are full, even if the line is a half mile long, even if the kids are crying and throwing tantrums...it will all melt away when you taste your first scrumptious bite of their homemade bread pudding with caramel sauce.
The other LONG
list of homemade pastries and mousses (grand chocolate tower (see photo...drooling ok), tiramisu
and the berry delight come to mind...) is enough to make my head spin
right out of orbit, just thinking of that mouth watering experience. It
happens EVERY time, never have hit an off day there.
The roast beef in the french dip melts in your mouth, and nobody does a Monte Crisco or Reuben better.
You can get fries with your sandwich, but
I MUCH prefer the German Potato salad. Delicious! O, and the
spaetzle...DON'T forget the spaetzle..
In the mood for bratwurst or liverwurst? No problem, they got ya covered!
In the evening you have 2 choices for an entree...a 6 or 9 OZ filet of mignon. It comes with a baked potato and a 1/4 of a head of lettuce drizzled with their homemade ranch dressing.
Throw the diet out the door when you visit this place, and enjoy the guilty pleasure of phillo pastries and authentic German cuisine to it's fullest and highest (calories!) potential!
One caveat tho! They DO NOT takes plastic cards of any sort, shape or kind! So line your pocket with green backs and go enjoy some European Cuisine South Dakota style!
Writing this post has made me incredibly hungry, I am gonna load up the family and head to Alpine Inn! See you there!
The famous 1880 Train. Kids and Adults both will love it! It rambles along thru the mountains on it's way to Keystone and back. Fun times! Many folks that have been to our area speak highly and fondly of the 1880 Train ride.
